General Info

Where is Tanganyika located?

Tanganyika is located just 15 minutes west of downtown Wichita, Kansas, off of Maple Street between 199th and 183rd street.

What are your hours?

Spring Season (March 11th – May 26th)

Daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Summer Season (Memorial Weekend to Labor Day)

Daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Fall season (Sept 5th – Nov 12th):
Daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Winter season (Nov. 8th -TBD):
Closed, but we will still offer events, birthday parties, and meet and greets.

Is there a fee for parking?

No! Parking is free.

Are you open all year?

We are closed for the Winter season.

Does Tanganyika require a lot of walking?

At Tanganyika, you don’t have to walk for miles. You can experience the full park In less than one mile!

How many animals do you have at the park?

We have more than 500 animals at the park.

What is the mask policy at the park?

Tanganyika Wildlife Park is an outdoor venue that allows for proper social distancing.  Therefore most of your visit is exempt from the mandate of wearing a mask.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we offer a 15% discount for all active military. We also offer special discount days throughout the season, i.e. Memorial Day and Mother’s Day. Please check our calendar to stay up-to-date!

Do I have to purchase tickets online?

Yes, online tickets can be purchased here.

Do you offer season passes?

Yes! Your season pass gives you unlimited visits to the park from March 11th – November 12th. FAQs for season passes here.

How much are season passes?

We offer three levels of season passes.

If I leave the park, can I re-enter?

Yes. Hold onto your receipt and present it at the admissions window when you return.

Amenities

Are wheelchairs available?

Yes, the park is handicap accessible and we offer wheelchairs, strollers, wagons, and scooters for rental:

Single Stroller – $6.00
Wagon – $9.00
Wheelchair – $15.00
Regular Scooter – $25.00

Are outside food and beverages allowed?

Yes, visitors can bring in food and non-alcoholic beverages, though glass containers are not allowed. Our animals may try to squeeze in another interactive encounter when there’s food involved, but it’s always best to leave their feedings up to the Keepers!

Do you sell food and beverages?

Yes! Luna’s Canteen offers full meal combos with sandwiches, chicken strips, fries or chips, and a variety of other snacks like gourmet pretzels, nachos, etc.  They also have kids meals available.  The beverage selection includes a full range of bottled drinks, juices, and souvenir cups for smoothies like the Tanganyika Twister, coffee-based drinks like the Giraffe-a-Latte and Okapi-ccino to keep you energized,  slushies, and self-service fountain drinks.

 
The Thirsty Sloth also provides four local beers on tap and up to four different frozen beverages such as Margaritas, Sangrias, etc.  During the Spring and Fall it is typically only open on the weekends.  During the summer, it will be open daily.

Do you have a gift shop?

Yes! Our gift shop is located near the entrance of the park. We sell a variety of merchandise, including books, clothing, educational toys and more.

Can I host an event at Tanganyika?

Yes! You can rent our space for birthday parties, weddings, meetings and more.

How do I schedule an event at Tanganyika?

Do you offer field trips? What is your pricing?

Yes! We host students of all ages for field trips. Our admission packages range from $6.50 to $10 per student, though prices may vary based on group size. See package options here.

Do you offer off-site animal programs?

Yes, we offer various off-site animal programs for students of all ages. See programs here.

Do you offer field trip packages for preschoolers?

Yes! We offer our standard packages for preschoolers, but they are appropriately modified for their age.

Do you offer discounts for schools?

The per-student pricing on our field trip packages is discounted based on our normal pricing for adults and children. We also offer a Title 1 discount on select packages.

Do you offer teacher resources?

Yes, we offer free staff development workshops and lesson plan supplement packs to enrich your students’ field trip experience. Learn more here.

Out of Town

Is Tanganyika close to Wichita?

Yes, Tanganyika Park is located in Goddard, Kansas, which is 15 minutes West of downtown Wichita.

Are there hotels near Tanganyika?

Yes, there are several hotels within 5-20 minutes of the park. View options on Google Maps.

Children

Do children get in for free at Tanganyika?

Children 2 and under are FREE.

Is there a changing station at Tanganyika?

Yes, the restrooms are equipped with changing stations.

Is there a nursing room at Tanganyika?

Not at this time.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes, guests may use strollers to transport their children. We also offer strollers for rental.

Can my child ride a skateboard, bicycle or scooter?

For the safety of our animals and our guests, we do not allow bikes, skates, skate-shoes, skateboards, hoverboards or Segways. Children with disabilities may ride scooters for transportation.

Is there a playground in the park?

Yes! Let the kids burn off some steam.
