This drive-thru light show is one of Wichita’s most popular Christmas events, and here is a list of reasons why this Christmas light show is a must-visit this holiday season:

  • Spend quality time with your family: This drive-thru holiday light show, with nearly a mile of wildlife-themed lights and decorations, is bound to get your family into the holiday spirit!
  • Bring the whole family together and enjoy the holidays without worry! You won’t have to listen to grandma’s excuses about getting cold while waiting for lights to get on or a toddler tantrum because of freezing hands. Dogs are also allowed as long they stay in your car.
  • Animal lovers will surely love this light display: Tanganyika lights are not only entertaining, but they also feature decorations centered around wildlife- making it ideal for animal lovers of all ages.
  • No cold hands this Christmas. There’s no need to make your family suffer by piling on layers of clothes. Instead, enjoy the sights and sounds from the warmth of your vehicle.
  • Time to get cozy and festive: Make your Christmas lights drive-through experience even more fun with a big bag of popcorn and hot chocolate.
  • Perfect for a magical date: Make this Christmas one to remember by planning a romantic date night centered around your local holiday lights display.
  • Stand out this Giving Season: By attending this event, you will not only have a great time, but you will also be supporting your local zoo. The funds raised go towards taking care of the park’s many animals during wintertime when the zoo is closed.

Tanganyika lights will run from November 25th to January 1st. Tickets cost $20 per car, Sunday through Thursday, and $25 per car, Friday and Saturday.

A Wildly Magical Time: SCZ Wild Lights

If you are looking for something truly special to do this Christmas season and love to be outdoors, then the SCZ Wild lights are the perfect experience for you and we are going to tell you why:

  • Become a kid again: Rediscover your youth and inner joy as you walk through the massive Asian lantern displays at this Wichita zoo.
  • Christmas lights display season early kick-off:  Although some people are hesitant to get into the Christmas spirit too early, in September the Wild Lights turn on. However, those expecting a traditional winter wonderland experience complete with falling snow and bright lights will be disappointed as this Wichita event ends the first weekend of December.
  • See the lights up close: View the displays in all their glory as you will be able to see them within reach, don’t forget to put on your walking shoes and warm clothes as you go for a stroll in the zoo.
  • Turn your visit into a live classroom: Transform your next family outing into an educational opportunity by visiting the Asian Lanterns exhibit. In addition to appreciating the beauty of the sculptures, you and your kids can learn about different cultures, wildlife, and geography.

Wild Lights will be open from 6 – 9 p.m. every Wednesday through Sunday. From September 30th till December 4th, with tickets ranging in cost from $15 to $17. And a family pack for $60.

Tanganyika and Sedgwick County Zoo Christmas light shows are spectacular in their own way.

So, which zoo lights are better in the end?

The answer, of course, is that there is no definitive answer. While riding your car allows you to enjoy the Christmas lights without having to worry about the cold or excluding someone with mobility issues, enjoying the Asian lantern sculptures at your own pace while roaming through the zoo after dark is worth any extra layers of clothes. Last, as far as costs go, TWP Lights are charged by a car while SCZ Wild Lights prices are per person.

Both the Tanganyika and Sedgwick County Zoo light shows are spectacular in their own way, and it ultimately depends on what you’re looking for in a Christmas light show. But, we can tell you this – whichever zoo you choose, you’re sure to have a good time.
