feeding lemurs at tanganyika in the fall

Reasons to love Fall season at Tanganyika

Although we love summer and recognize that those months account for most of our busiest days of the year, with kids being out of school and guests visiting from out of town—fall is truly one of our favorite seasons for many reasons! We cheerfully welcome the fall season each year. The first day of fall is September 23, but as of September 3, we have officially started our fall season schedule at the park.

First off, here’s a quick rundown of our fall schedule:

-Open daily from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm until we close on November 10

-We will have animal encounter station rotations each day.

-Our animal encounter stations are now set up on a rotation schedule that will allow each encounter station to be open for 15 minutes throughout the hour. This rotation cycle will continue through the entire day.

-Rhino feeding will be at 10:15 am and 1:15 pm

-Hippo feeding will be at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm

-Coffee shop is now open on Saturdays and Sundays

Now, let’s move on to our favorite parts about the fall season. We think will become your favorites too!

The Weather

If you’re from Kansas, you know that the weather can be indecisive. Fall days in Kansas could be 95 degrees one day and 65 degrees the next. However, in general, after a long hot summer—the fall weather means cooler temperatures and crisp fresh air which can make it quite a bit more comfortable to walk around the park.

Active Animals

As a result of the nicer weather, our animals tend to be more active during the fall season. This is a perk because you get to see more of the animals in more ways and may be able to get a better glimpse into their unique personalities.

Animal Encounter Rotations (new this season!)

In the past during the fall season, we did encounter tours where people would jump on to the tour to participate in encounters whenever they arrived at the park. However, to better serve our visitors and season pass holders, we have transitioned to a fall animal encounter rotation schedule this year. This ensures that more guests have the chance to participate in all our amazing interactive encounters during their visit. We encourage guests to take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions about the animals and the park during the encounters.

Kangabrew Coffee Shop Treats

It’s not Fall without the delicious fall drinks and treats, and what is better than strolling through the park on a nice day with a tasty coffee in-hand? Our Kangabrew Coffee Shop has you covered with all the chai and pumpkin spice flavors of coffees & teas you could want! Plus, have you tried our scones?! If not, you are missing out! Stop by on Saturdays and Sunday visits from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Fun Weekend Activity

Once the school year begins, we recognize that families are looking for a fun weekend activity to do together. Tanganyika offers the perfect educational, interactive and fun trip for some family bonding time.

Pumpkins at the Park

The cherry on top of our fall season is our one-of-a-kind Halloween event—Pumpkins at the Park, which will be held on October 18-20 & 25-27 this year.

Pumpkins At The Park is the largest, family friendly Halloween event in the Wichita area with activities for kids, teens and adults! The Park will be filled with a thematic waterfall light show, special Halloween characters and costumes, a 3D maze, a cage maze, escape rooms, inflatables, zombies, laser tag and adult beverages. This spectacular celebration also offers fun and safe trick-or-treat candy stations, hayrides, free mini pumpkins and crafts. You won’t want to miss out on the fun this year!
