Swimming with Penguins is one of the exciting animal encounters offered by this Wichita zoo.

Are there any exciting animal activities near me?

That was the same question that Kristina Light had when she started researching things to do with her family. Her family has a love affair with zoos. In fact, they’ve been to over twenty different traditional zoos and animal attractions such as farms and aquariums over the years.

So… her mind was blown away when she found out that just 3 hours away from her hometown in Kansas City was the most interactive zoo in the Midwest, and maybe even in the US!

Kristina Light and her whole family packed their bags and headed to Tanganyika Wildlife Park– located in Wichita KS– and took part in their Ultimate Weekend. This 2-day package includes all of what this Wichita Zoo has to offer including more than 15 up-close animal encounters.

During their weekend at Tanganyika, as this Wichita Zoo is known, they met sloths, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, otters, penguins, okapis, kangaroos, lemurs, and owl monkeys. They even got to swim with the penguin colony!  One of the highlights of their trip was staying on the zoo premises. Tanganyika also has a five-bedroom luxury guesthouse just a two-minute walk from the park itself!

The water park at Tanganyika Wildlife Park. One of Wichita´s new summer attractions

A unique water park in Wichita that will blow your mind!

We already talked about Tanganyika Wildlife Park as not your traditional zoo where visitors passively see the animals as they walk around.  As this boutique zoo has more fun things to offer for visitors that come in the summer months: Tanganyika Falls Splash Park!

A 5,000 square foot multilevel water park with three waterslides, the world’s tallest spitting giraffe named Jordy, plus an alligator slide, water guns, a palm tree waterfall, dancing fountains, and much more. The Splash Park could easily be an all-day activity, nevertheless, there’s still the whole zoo to take advantage of.

For parents, there’s plenty of shade and the Thirsty Sloth Bar where you can enjoy craft beers, frozen drinks, and specialty cocktails. Whether you want more privacy, a break from the action, or just some quiet time after a day of adventure, you can relax in their cabanalows.
