1.) Tanganyika Wildlife Park (Goddard, KS, USA)

Tanganyika Wildlife Park is known to be one of the most interactive zoos in the Midwest. At Tanganyika, you can feed, touch, learn from, and meet animals and get a one-on-one experience with the wildlife. My favorite thing about this zoo was getting to interact with Chewie the sloth and their adorable otter.

They also offer educational programs and amenities like a splash park, playground, food, bar, and gift shop. Tanganyika is also known for its extraordinary efforts in species conservation by breeding animals and raising money for several conservation organizations. 2.) Sedgwick County Zoo (Wichita,KS, USA)

Sedgwick County Zoo is an AZA-accredited wildlife park and a major attraction in Wichita, Kansas. They are home to over 3,000 animals across nearly 400 different species. They’re known for having one of the largest walk-through aviaries in the United States. They offer up close animal encounters, educational programs, and learning activities like Nature STEAM.

3.) Safari Zoological Park (Caney, KS, USA

Safari Zoological Park was originally known as a refuge for endangered species in 1989. My favorite thing about this park is that they offer unique and educational guided tours. They have a variety of animals, including ants, sloths, lions, tigers, bears, lemurs, and wolves. 

4.) Rolling Hills Zoo (Salina, KS, USA)

Rolling Hills Zoo is an AZA-accredited zoo known for its extensive naturalistic exhibits for its animals and rich science-based education programs. They offer a variety of animal encounters, including a white rhino, a chimpanzee, snow leopards, and many more. Their mission is to educate people on why conservation is important to wildlife. My favorite thing about this zoo is the wildlife museum, which features educational exhibits that teach you about the natural environments all around the world. 

5.) Sunset Zoo (Manhattan, KS, USA)

Sunset Zoo is also known as Sunset Zoological Park. They house over 300 animals. My favorite thing about this zoo is getting to see the majestic sloth bear. Sunset Zoo also offers educational science programs, behind-the-scenes access, a kid education camp, and so much more. Sunset Zoo supports field conservation and has a conservation team named in honor of Dr. Bob Klemm, who is the director of conservation and research. 


6.) Garden City Zoo (Garden City, KS, USA

Garden City Zoo, also known as Lee Richardson Zoo, is an AZA-accredited zoo that has more than 100 species and also includes animals that are non-native to southwest Kansas. They feature over 50 wonderful landscaped acres and spacious animal habitats. 

My favorite thing about this zoo is that they offer unique features like vehicle access, so you can drive all through the zoo. I also enjoy going to the fascinating historic museum that displays wildlife and nature exhibits and goes over historical moments in Kansas throughout the years.
